Relationship-based team building

Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” Relationship-based team building is a cornerstone to the success of our project management services.

First, we proactively seek to clearly understand what is important to our client sponsor. Together we define success, desired relationship behaviors, and important communication modes and expectations. This is all done while considering the impact and challenges associated with the client’s internal cultural and organizational differences. It is critical to establish these relationship-building blocks very early in the process to cultivate healthy team development.

Once the expectations of the team have been established, Ulteig provides the leadership to manage the project through its life cycle. We work collaboratively with our client teams to grow vital relationships that strengthen overall project team effectiveness. We use five primary relationship attributes to drive project results:

  • Shared vision
  • Accountability
  • Optimism
  • Respect
  • Trust

Our project management professionals are experts in establishing the definition of a successful project. Once the definition of success has been determined, we are able to create a very real and shared vision of what is required to achieve this success. Once the team clearly understands the end-state objectives and has bought into the plan, Ulteig leads the process of team building through relationship development. This occurs on a daily basis throughout the project.

Relationship development is earned and is not something that just happens. Ulteig mentors the project team by fostering: personal and team accountability, first to themselves then to each other; rewarding and encouraging an unyielding sense of optimism; and by setting a clear expectation that it is okay to professionally disagree, but it must always be done with personal respect.

Actively building and nurturing relationships yields strong, effective and successful project teams. These teams are passionate, positive and high performing as evidenced by a strong trust that has been built throughout the team. Team members have a rewarding sense of accomplishment and team community.

Our approach is to work collaboratively with our clients to effectively understand their unique project management challenges. As a trusted advisor, we provide proven leadership in relationship based team building. We identify and determine the best course of action and implement and institutionalize the resulting performance improvements and initiate positive change within the organization.

A mature project team, one that has developed relationships, can strongly influence and improve project predictability. The increased quality of communication and collaboration between all project stakeholders yields improved project scope, schedule and budget performance.
