Ulteig announces that Nick Welch, a design and drafting support intern in the company’s Energy group, was recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the RMEL Foundation. The RMEL Foundation is a not for profit energy trade association that serves the electric utility industry with a variety of education and networking services.

Welch was awarded one of two RMEL Foundation Wärtsilä North America, Inc. Scholarships. He is currently studying Electrical Engineering at North Dakota State University. During his time at Ulteig, Welch has worked on an underground collection system design for wind farms and has helped create a student organization on the NDSU campus called Students for Renewable Energy. After spending the last semester studying in Spain, he plans to return to Ulteig.

The RMEL Foundation awarded 16 scholarships totaling $32,000 in the 2010-2011 academic year. The scholarships went to students pursuing careers in the electric energy industry. Selections were based upon each student’s goals for their future in the industry, their motivation, academic achievements and service to their community and school.
