Ulteig announces Executive Vice President Brian Long as the company’s Chief Development Officer (CDO). As CDO, Long focuses on strategically building Ulteig’s client base, ensuring the quality and profitability of the company’s work and developing new service areas. He is responsible for overseeing the growth and productivity of Ulteig's four business sectors (Building Services, Civil, Energy, and Land Services) and leads and manages the Senior Vice Presidents responsible for each sector.

Long graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Joining Ulteig in 1986, he first served as a Design Engineer in the company’s substation group where he managed a large number of residential and warehouse office space projects in the Minneapolis/St. Paul market. At this time he also began a long relationship with Xcel Energy, designing power plants and substations on Ulteig’s behalf for the power company. During the early 1990s Long managed work on the cellular tower installations in the Twin Cities, expanding the number of cellular towers each year during the decade until Ulteig was installing over 100 each year. Long then took on management of a series of projects related to commercial retail and aviation. He managed structural changes at the Denver International Airport and the Airbus teardown facility at the Minneapolis International Airport. Charged with building Ulteig’s Transmission group in Minneapolis, Long grew the group from a single engineer to the largest currently in the company.

In 2003 Long was a key member of the planning committee charged with creating a strategic plan to lead Ulteig through the rest of the decade. A result of the plan was the business sector organization and the Employee Stock Ownership Program currently in place at the company. In 2005 he assumed charge of the Energy sector in addition to the leadership of the Minneapolis office. Since 2005 he has grown the Energy team from 45 to 130 employees located across the majority of Ulteig offices. Long has been a member of the Ulteig Board of Directors since 2000. He was named First Vice President in 2001 and became Chairman of the Board in 2004.

Long is a member of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Energy Committee, the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and has served on the University of Minnesota Structural Seminars committee. As a member of Ulteig’s Board he has served as the Chairman of the Compensation Committee and has been involved in audit and role clarity subcommittees.

He is a member of The Engineering Honor Society Tau Beta Pi, is active on his local church building committees, and is currently Assistant Scout Manager for Boy Scout Troop #232, Land of Lakes.
