Highway Reconstruction
Becker County
Ogema to White Earth , MN

Ulteig Engineers worked with Becker County, MN on this turn back project that reverted Trunk Highway 224 into a County Highway. In addition to being in poor condition, the previous roadway contained narrow driving lanes, minimal shoulders, steep ditch slopes and poor sight distances.

Becker County contracted Ulteig to provide the full range of services for the design and construction of the project. Ulteig provided preliminary services that included the preparation of Project Development Report, public input meetings, traffic analysis and design recommendations. Significant wetland delineation was also required to determine potential impacts to the wetland areas. The final design included removal of the existing highway surface, significant grade adjustments to improve traffic safety, changes to the configuration of at-grade intersections and the addition of roadway lighting. A water transmission line was also constructed from White Earth to the City of Ogema. In addition, Ulteig obtained grant money from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources that ultimately resulted in the entire project being restored with native prairie grasses and vegetation. Throughout construction Ulteig provided construction administration, inspection and staking services.
