Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion
City of New York Mills
New York Mills, MN

In order for the City of New York Mills to allow for continued growth, it was necessary to undergo improvements and expansions on their current wastewater system.

The expansion project, which is currently under construction, includes the construction of two, six acre primary aeration ponds, a blower/headworks building, reconstruction of a 10 inch PVC forcemain from the City's main lift station to the new aeration ponds, three new center pivots for land application of treated effluent, two miles of PVC forcemain and smaller improvements to the existing stabilization ponds and the existing irrigation pumping station.  Improvements will also include the installation of extensive Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system which will allow for remote operation and monitoring of the entire treatment system. Ulteig Right-of-Way services were also utilized to obtain permanent and temporary easements for the construction of the forcemain.

With the help of Ulteig Engineers, the City received a loan from the Minnesota Public Facility Authority in order to fund the wastewater treatment facility project. Ulteig provided comprehensive services including preliminary evaluations and design alternatives, project design, permitting, wetland mitigation, design and construction staking and construction administration and inspection. Staff from Ulteig's civil/municipal, electrical, mechanical, structural, water/wastewater and land services sectors were able to provide the City of New York Mills comprehensive services from the preliminary stage of the project all the way to system start-up.
