Our History
Ulteig Engineers was founded in 1944 by Melvin Ulteig with the vision of bringing
electricity to people in the rural Upper Midwest. Over the next 10 years, Ulteig
played a key role in doing just that by completing more than 35,000 miles of
distribution work for the Rural Electric Association and approximately 600
miles of transmission lines.
In addition to continued work in the energy industry, defense contracts represented
a substantial portion of Ulteig’s business in the '60s and '70s, including strategic
missile system projects. During the later part of the twentieth century, Ulteig added
structural and civil engineering services, which led to work in water/wastewater,
aviation, transportation and building services. More recently, we have expanded
into planning, and geographic information services, as well as fire protection and
mechanical engineering.
Since 1944, Ulteig has evolved into a multi-disciplined firm serving eight
primary market sectors including: aviation; building services; energy; land
services; municipal; planning, environmental and information; transportation;
and water/wastewater sectors. Over the years we have completed projects in
locations throughout the country and ranging from China to small islands in the
Pacific and Indian Oceans.
